Does Adele’s Sirtfood diet really work for weight loss?

by Elloww Team

Adele just about broke the internet when she recently revealed her new figure on Instagram. While we think she looked gorgeous before and after her transformation, the dramatic 50lb weight loss had people around the world asking “HOW?”

The Sirtfood Diet

Her dramatic weight loss has been attributed to the Sirtfood Diet, a revolutionary diet plan developed by nutritionists, Glen Matten and Aidan Goggins, designed to focus on 20 foods that speed up your metabolism, boost energy levels and activate your “skinny-genes”.

The Sirtfood Diet is also advocated by celebs such as Pippa Middleton and heavyweight champion David Haye. It is even said to help dieters lose 7lbs in 7 days. The best part? Red wine and dark chocolate are on the list of approved foods.

What’s important to note is that it isn’t a ‘fun & games’ diet that just gets you to shed pounds. The diet is mostly plant-based and high in antioxidants that help your body metabolize fat at a higher rate.

So what are sirtfoods?

Sirtfoods are a group of plant foods which are packed full of ‘sirtuin’, a protein which protects the cells in our bodies from inflammation, and can help regulate your metabolism, increase muscle and burn fat.

The science behind the diet maximises your weight loss potential by splitting the plan into two stages. The first stage involves two green juices per day for the first three days, filled with delicious sirt-high foods like kale, rocket and lemon, as well as one healthy meal with other sirt-high ingredients like turkey, prawns or buckwheat. You can even have a sweet treat for dessert, such as dark chocolate, strawberries or dates, as long as you stay under 1000 calories per day.

From then on, you begin to eat more normally and bring your calorie limit back up to 1500; you keep the same number of juices but add in another meal. The initial stage of fasting may ring alarm bells for those concerned with yo-yo dieting, but the aim of the plan is to bring healthier, sirt-high foods into your daily diet and improve your wellbeing over time.

Many countries that already make good use of sirt-high foods, such as Japan, back the plan up with solid data on lower rates of obesity and higher life expectancies across the population. Having those occasional treats of wine and chocolate is a big draw, of course, but the most avid proponents of the Sirtfood Diet emphasise that this is not a fad but a lifestyle change, which not only helped them slim down but improved their general wellbeing too.
